2nd XI vs Rainhill | The Rake

On Saturday 6th May New Brighton hosted Rainhill at home looking to get back to winning ways. It got off to a flyer with Rasun and Armand with an opening stand of 62 as Rasun departed claiming the bowler was too slow. Sam Jones entered the crease looking to get his account up and running for the 2023 season and after looking scratchy in parts put on a partnership of over 100 with the ever steady Rabot passing his half century. When he was dismissed the fans expected fireworks from the incoming DJ. A looping full toss at shoulder height could only find a fielder on the shortest part of the boundary edge. Jones passed 50 but then plinked one to long off. The Duracell bunnies of Simmo and Anders rotated the strike nicely albeit to the stress levels of each of their cardiovascular systems. New Brighton 240 - 5 declared.

The Rainhill innings started well with a partnership of 24 before Hamm bowled one of his straight breaks to break it. 1 became 2 quickly. However, danger man Calarco was somehow still at the crease due to some questionable fielding. Partnerships were made but then broken. The key moment when Anders took a spectacular catch at long on the then turn around and blow a kiss to his Mrs. Game on. New Brighton tried everything they could, literally 9 bowlers were used. Although Rainhill stood firm and played out for a draw. Disappointing to say the least but New Brighton dust themselves down and go looking for a win away at Liverpool in their next fixture. Tempers did continue to flare after the game. Rasi and Jones are apparently still very angry and Cureton is yet to edit his latest TikTok to the disappointment of skipper Simmo. Tune back in next week I’m Tom Evans and that’s your weekly round-up.
